Why so many Niagara Falls visitors land at Buffalo

Buffalo Niagara International Airport is the closest major airport to the Canadian side of Niagara Falls. It sits roughly 35 miles, about 56 kilometres, from the Fallsview corridor, which works out to 45 to 60 minutes by road once the border is included. Toronto Pearson is around 80 miles away and typically takes 90 minutes to two hours to the same hotels. For travellers whose destination is the falls rather than Toronto, flying into Buffalo usually means a shorter final leg and a cheaper ground transfer, which is why this route runs every day of the year.

The catch is the last 35 miles. Buffalo Airport has no rail link to Canada, the public transit options involve multiple transfers and are impractical with luggage, and rideshare apps will not take you across the bridge. That gap is precisely what a flat-rate cross-border taxi exists to close.

The Lewiston-Queenston Bridge is the northern option and can be quickest on a busy summer afternoon. At the bridge, your driver takes the lane and every passenger answers the Canadian border officer directly. Have passports and any supporting documents out before you reach the booth. The questions are routine: where you live, where you are going, how long you are staying. Occasionally a vehicle is referred to secondary inspection, which adds time but is not unusual. Residential addresses are quoted at $105 rather than $95, and everything else on that list is $95.

Niagara-on-the-Lake, about 20 minutes further north through wine country, is a separate route at $150. If you are staying there rather than in Niagara Falls, book that route instead so the fare is right from the start.

Vehicles, luggage, and larger groups

The $95 flat rate covers a sedan carrying up to four passengers with standard luggage. Groups of five or six move to a minivan, and parties of eight to ten are split across two vehicles. Both options carry a small supplement that is quoted before you confirm, never added afterwards. A luxury SUV is available if you want it. What does not change is the structure: you are quoted one price for the whole vehicle, and the number of people sitting in it does not alter the fare.
