Getting to the Shaw Festival From Buffalo Airport
The Shaw Festival runs in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, about 50 miles (80 km) by road from Buffalo Niagara International Airport. There is no train, no scheduled airport bus, and no transit connection between the two. Visitors flying in for a performance either rent a car or, more often, pre-book a private driver so the border and the drive are handled for them on the day of the show.
Our route leaves the airport, runs north through Western New York, and crosses into Canada at the Queenston-Lewiston Bridge. That crossing lands you roughly ten minutes from Old Town, which is why it beats the Peace Bridge for this destination: the Peace Bridge route would send you back through Niagara Falls traffic. From the Canadian side it is a short run along the Niagara Parkway into town.

If your flight lands close to curtain, call us before you book rather than after. We will tell you plainly whether the timing is realistic. Hotels, Inns, and Pre-Theatre Dinner
Most Shaw guests are not going straight to a seat. They are checking into a Queen Street hotel, a bed and breakfast on one of the side streets, or a property out along the Niagara Parkway, then walking to the theatre. We drop at the property door with your bags, which matters on a street where parking is tight and the walk from a public lot is longer than it looks on a map.

The Border Between BUF and the Shaw Festival
Which Crossing We Use
The Queenston-Lewiston Bridge, north of Niagara Falls. It puts you on the Ontario side closest to Niagara-on-the-Lake and avoids doubling back through Niagara Falls, which is what a Peace Bridge routing would mean for this destination.
How Long It Takes
Often only a few minutes. On summer weekends, holiday Mondays, and Friday afternoons it can be much longer. We build a cushion into the schedule, but nobody can promise a wait time, and any operator who does is guessing.
Your Travel Documents
Carrying valid travel documents in both directions is the passenger’s responsibility. Most travelers need a passport; some qualify with a NEXUS card or an enhanced driver’s license, and children can need extra paperwork. Returning to Buffalo Airport After the Festival
The return leg is the half people forget until the morning they need it. Niagara-on-the-Lake is a small town, cars available on the spot are limited, and a departure out of BUF means crossing the border southbound with a flight to catch.
Book the return when you book the arrival. Give us your flight time and we will set the pickup backward from it, allowing for the southbound crossing and the check-in window at the terminal.
